Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend  Next Entry
I am having a good week, and productivity is unusually high. I am getting work done, and I'm about 8 inches into my lacy scarf, which I've only been working on since Sunday; on Monday night I made a borscht which, if I do say to myself, was delicious, and last night [info]class_worrier made an absolutely FABULOUS tofu noodle soup thing that I would like to eat forever, and which we both agreed is the most grown-up thing that has ever been made in our household. I am making progress towards my Pop Vultures debut, and in just over an hour I am having a high-powered journalistic luncheon with [info]circumlocute, where we will be conducting SERIOUS BUSINESS and not just having a gossip. Yes. Even the fact that the spending review that may well make me redundant is coming out today, and I woke myself up at 4am by punching myself in the eye, I am feeling good.

So anyway! ANONYMOUS COMMENTS WEDNESDAY. IP logging is off, as ever. Tell me things! Play nice, though.

there seems to be a trend on my f-list of people starting to write as if we were their adoring audience rather than friends/peers. it annoys me. (don't know if it's anyone we have in common)

There are a couple of people on LJ who annoy me for similar reasons, neither of whom are on my f'list, but whose journals I occasionally visit just to annoy myself...

I am becoming a bit worried about my taste in boys (and I mean boys, not men). Why am I finding boys like Rupert Grint, Shia LeBeouf and one of the members of McFly attractive? They are babies! (But hopefully all over the age of 18, or I will feel sick). Perhaps it is my quarter-life crisis or something, but I'd like it to stop please. Need to like more manly men, like...um...Sean Bean or somebody.

Rupert Grint is 19, and Shia LaBeouf (whom I'd never heard of) appears to be 21, according to imdb, so you're safe. Not sure about the member of McFly, though.

I have lost any respect I may ever have had for Sean Bean thanks to the frankly execrable-looking Beowulf.

I'm with you on the last two, though I think the monogamy thing varies so much depending on how people are wired. I could deal with non-monogamy in the sense of an open relationship, I think, but polyamory holds no appeal for me whatsoever, quite aside from the fact that I can't imagine having the time to maintain multiple meaningful relationships.

What's wrong with knee-length shorts? I bought some yesterday, in some lovely woolly kind-of-denim-but-not-really material, with a belt, and they are wonderfully comfortable and they show off my legs. So why does my boyfriend think they look ridiculous?

Oh I'm so glad you did this because I've been meaning to ask you something and this makes it more fun. I think I have missed something in your journal about you having met [info]exliontamer in a previous life and I was very confused reading a recent entry. So now I want to know the whole story, all the details.

Also every time I read that username I get the Faithless "Lion Tamer" song in my head. It's not a bad way to be earwigged though.

It goes like this: [info]exliontamer's grandmother lives in the same TINY south Wales village as my uncle and aunt, and where my parents are currently living. I've spent quite a lot of time in the village over my lifetime, as we would often go there for summer holidays, and as it's such a small community I've actually met [info]exliontamer's grandmother (and grandfather, when he was alive) several times; [info]exliontamer has also possibly met my aunt and uncle, though she's not sure. Does that make any more sense?

Also, I believe "Ex Lion Tamer" is a Wire song...

Most people seem to regard me as sweet and nice. This is all good and I probably am quite nice for the most part. But I am frustrated too because in my head I am much meaner and very sarcastic. Should I let it all out and shock people, or keep with the sweet and nice?

I'm also physically quite little which I think adds to the whole thing. How does one give the appearance of an alluring sarcastic strong woman (= myself in my head) rather than a pretty but gentle/placid girl (= apparently how some people see me, and ewwwww how much do I hate the thought of being seen as placid?).

So here's the thing: I used to be a writer. When I say that I mean that from a very young age, I was writing all the time. I had thousands of stories to tell. I was writing the stories I wanted to read. No major publishing of course, but I identified as a writer, and publishing absolutely would have happened eventually.

Then, about ten years ago it just disappeared. I'm not even joking. It was like overnight. One day I was a writer constantly working, writing stories the way I read books: several at one time, and the next day, I had nothing to say. This is worse than writer's block. Did I mention it's been ten years?

It's so hard because I want it, I've got all the tools at my disposal but no ... plot, characters (don't even get me started about nano), I've got no story to tell.

Which most people who know me would find shocking. Oh write something from your life it's so interesting, you're so brave, blah blah.

Even writing entries in my livejournal is a struggle. I don't know what to do and for ten years it's felt like more than half of me is dead. This isn't even like depression. It's like death.

I was exactly the same, in my family I am still known as "the literary one who writes all the time". LJ is OK, I can write there but writing for work can be a real struggle sometimes and I am a press officer! I can trace this back to the time that I studied journalism at uni - I think before I started studying how to write professionally I was confident because I didn't know about "the rules" of doing so. I had poetry published and was well on my way to writing a book even. But by my third year I had just lost all the passion I had for writing, either journalism or fiction. I think the final nail in the coffin was when I had a bike accident - I used to have a vivid imagination, I used to be able to just lie down and close my eyes and imagine plots like they were movies in my mind's eye. Now, nothing. I cry sometimes with the frustration of it all. I really hope that some day I wake up and find I can write fiction again.

I find myself increasingly torn by my aim to remain patient and wait for the right person to pursue a long-term relationship with and my desire to get laid.

This has not been helped by the discovery that someone who I used to work with, who I fancy but don't want to have a relationship with, fancies me.

Would getting laid necessarily prevent the eventual long-term relationship? Being patient is important, yes, but can you also have a bit of fun while you're waiting? ;)
