Gah, I am USELESS at communication at the moment. Between having no access to my personal email at work, and Virgin being generally incompetent and sporadically cutting off our home internet, and my habit of putting my phone down in places in my flat where it has no reception or I can't hear it beeping, my life is currently strewn with missed calls and texts and emails that I never get round to replying to. Sorry sorry sorry if you are one of the people who has been trying to contact me of late; I FAIL AT LIFE and will try to do better.

I have so much work that it makes me cry a bit, but I am taking the time to do a wee poll that I have been thinking about for quite some time.

See, even if I was, I think I actually would balk at ticking 'I am a shitter!' on the internet. Or indeed anywhere.

The older I get the more I find I sort of like puking, or like what it does. The kind of high that comes after and the cleansing sort of feel of it. It's like 'well done, human body! Very exciting!' Heh.

I feel the same way, but I also suspect that that is part of my nature as a puker: we pukers find shitting a lot more embarrassing than shitters do.

I feel the same way about the post-puke high! In fact, I feel we may have discussed this as I was in the middle of my pukefest when you came to visit.

however puking is worse as it means something is wrong, whereas shitting doesn't.

I had never puked in my life until I experimented with ALCOHOL and DRUGS. Now puking has lost all its fear. Although I still do it much much less, and I'm trying to train my body to respond to hangovers and coming up by shitting rather than puking, because it is more convenient.

OK, if we absolutely HAVE to discuss bodily functions. I have only really had two incidents of gastric illness, if that's where we're going with this. Both times it was more puking than the other thing, but it was still..um...there. However, when in Pakistan it was most certainly the other end that was affected. Lately, the only time I puke is when I have migraines, lovely things that they are, but by that point it is most welcome, seeing as, for that split second when my brain is focused in something else, the sheer blinding pain stops.

But if it's nerves we're talking about, then sadly I am again the other end, not a puker. I dunno which is better, if any.

So there you go. I'm sure everyone is thrilled to know my er..ins and outs.

OK, so I'm assuming we're talking when you've "got the gastro", as they say here in sunny France, or have eaten something nasty. In which case my answer still stands, as I do neither. People tend to see me as something of a fragile creature, and I suppose I am, because I'm often struck down with colds, throat infections etc etc but I never get ill in the belly. Never! Not even in the winter when absolutely everyone "has the gastro" I still don't get it. RAWR! I have cast-iron guts.

Err, I had a nasty experience with a mussel once though, and that night I puked. I hate puking, and therefore do it only rarely, but my husband is a shitter, and given the state of him sometimes when he emerges from the loo I'm not sure I'd like it any more than puking. Urgh.

I must also add that seeing Gemma using words like "jobbies" and "pump" made me laugh loads, because it's totally normal - sometimes I tend to forget that they are Scottish words. Also, if there isn't enough graphic filth and poo-related yuck for you here, follow the link on my post of 28th November....

Oh, dude, I should REALLY not have followed that link at work...

I very, very rarely get ill in the belly - I define as a puker but it's almost always a one-off incident (erm, often alcohol-related) rather than anything prolonged. The only times that I have ever had anything that I would term a stomach illness were when I was in Indonesia aged 14, and in South Sudan - both, I think, related to dodgy food (and EVERYONE gets ill in South Sudan; even you would!), but when people talk about being "struck down" with food poisoning or the gastro or whatever, neither time was I ill enough to take to my bed.

And I've been sick about 5 times since the age of 10. My terror of it is so great I think my body actually listens and sends the badness the other way.

I used to prefer puking to... the other, until I discovered alcohol. Non alcohol related puking is comforting and lovely, and you go to bed feeling all shaky but well. Alcohol-related puking is usually just the start of a day of hell for me (unless I can manage the night before tactical chunder, and only then if I can pull myself together and go dancing later.)

Huh, that is weird, because I am just the opposite: a drunken or hungover puke will make me feel better instantly (aside from the memorable occasion a few weeks ago where I threw up every half hour for about four hours while hungover - horrible), whereas an actually-ill puke comes with no such guarantee.

I got gastritis a few years ago and it was one of the most hideous experiences of my entire life. It hit me in the middle of the night and I spent what seemed like about five years but was probably about an hour in the bathroom pooing and puking at the same time. Thank heavens the sink was next to the loo so I could get sick into it. It was truly, truly awful. And the getting sick lasted for about three days. I thought I was dying.

I usually do quite enjoy having a poo, though.

I have an overdeveloped gag reflex and smells in particular rotting stuff tend to set me off so in that way am a puker, but post a bout of gastroenteritis during my finals which was both ends - you get puke breaks and stuff - and subsequent IBS diagnosis it can be either. I have suffered the puke in the sink because falling off the toilet is too much effort thing. Never good.

When I was on Wellbutrin for the first time (and when I'm commenting on your journal I always feel slightly british so I want to say "yonks ago") a few years back (spring of 2005 maybe?) I couldn't eat more than the amount equivalent to a small bowl of cereal and a yogurt without puking.

It was NOT fun to find this out, as the first time I ate more than that I was at work, and had just eaten two slices of pizza. Wellbutrin kicked me in the stomach and said NO, TOO MUCH, OUT OUT and I had to run and throw up in the bathroom. It was really bizarre and I felt bulimic.

Luckily that particular effect has never recurred. But for about 3 months, Wellbutrin made me bulimic! I never overate if I could help it, but sometimes I'd accidentally do so, like if I had a soda AND lunch... normally I don't think of how much room is taken up in my stomach by liquid, but for whatever reason, Wellbutrin interpreted the "big meal, stomach must expand" signal as "TOO BIG A MEAL, MUST VOMIT IMMEDIATELY."

Maybe Wellbutrin just made me Roman. :P (Vomitorium actually means exit. People are stupid.)
