Does it make me childish that I always snigger to myself when opening post from one of our contractors, whose company is called Cumloaden?

I also just misread "Petersburn" as "Petersbum".

Undoubtedly! However, I would also find this utterly hilarious.

Of course it does, but I am with you in childish sniggering. I mean, who thinks "oh yes, Cumloaden, that gives my company an aura of respectability"?

I did just goodle, and got disappointingly few results! I will have to check the company name when I next see it, to check whether I got it right. I'll be very disappointed if I find I've been misreading it for ages.

If you've been reading it wrong for ages, I think this says A LOT about you. A LOT.

I think that you are right. :(

I am quite pleased with my invention of the word "goodle", though.

Sadly for us, if not for them, the sheep-shearing centre in Cumbria that used to distribute leaflets around the Lake District enticing people to visit (“Come in and see us! The best cup of tea on the M6!”, or whatever motorway it was, and it honestly included the line, “You don’t even have to go and see the sheep!”) has changed its name in recent years from the frankly amazing CumWest. My friend unfortunately lost the leaflet in question so these days no one believes us, but I saw this with my own eyes.

And if it’s the indefensibly puerile you’re after, there’s always this.

I believe you! Mostly because I want to believe you, mind. I imagine Cumbria must be filled with similarly unfortunate abbreviations and neologisms.

Ha! When I worked in Sheffield I always used to see buses marked for Penistone. It made it even funnier that there was a place nearby called Wombwell.

Back when I worked at UK Work Permits, there was a list passed round the office of entertaining names that people had encountered, and there were quick a few Shittos on there! I think my favourite was a man called Jean-Gustave Gateau-Anchovey, though.

For serious! I knew the name sounded familiar, so I googled and came up with a reference to fencing, and it all came back. I think pretty much all fencers in the UK know each other...
