Every time I think I couldn't love Obama any more, he proves me wrong.

It's amazing! What makes it ever more amazing is that this is going to be a very unpopular move with a lot of US citizens - it's almost as if he is doing what he thinks is right rather than doing what he has to do to gain/maintain popularity. So rare in a politician!

And yet THAT is exactly what we want. I mean, what we want in any democratic society.

Wake me up when he starts up some war crimes enquiries - then we can talk about doing what is right versus what is expedient.

Stopping all military tribunals until the system for carrying them out is re-examined, executive order requiring himself and all past Presidents to go through the Attorney General to claim executive privilege; that looks like laying groundwork there to me.

Yeah. I've been saying he can't live up to all the hype and hope, but at least he's not letting us down so far!

OMG YES. Ok in principle I don't give a shit about Obama because I see him as just another piece of the System that will destroy us all, but in the meantime anyone who dismantles policies which actively harm people has got my vote. I may have to start waving a little flag for the man!

Oh SHIT! I think... I think I might love him more than Zapatero! But Zapatero is still beautiful and feminist! Can I have a filthy crush on both of them in tandem? Or is that just generally disgraceful? The possibilities, the possibilities...

I am a big Obama fan, but this is one of those things that should not be a big deal or a surprise - I would hope that any Democrat would reverse that order (and in fact Bill Clinton did).

This is not to say it isn't a good thing - it's just to be expected when you have a real political party running things.

I agree with [info]amuchmoreexotic that how he deals with war crimes will say a lot more about him.

We might well ask what took him so long: both Clinton and Bush respectively rescinded and re-instated the Mexico City Policy on their first day in office!

(Just kidding, Obama! You know I ♥ you!)

Haha wow "The final language of the 1984 policy was negotiated by the deputy chairman of the U.S. delegation, Alan Keyes, then an Assistant Secretary of State.". This would be the same Alan Keyes that actually ran against Barack Obama for Senator in 2004, and said that Obama's lack of absolute horror at abortion displayed "a slavemaster's mentality".
